I found this here little teaser..
I have unfortunatly forgotten the name of the DJ

I don't usually listen to Techno.. but this her mp3 and another I have that I have yet to up to a site I do like..

I guess it can be categoriesed as sort of Dark Trance if there's such a term

http://members.fortunecity.com/dunkmyhead/sound/into_the_darkness.mp3

I hope the hotlinking is working... also.. if any of you know who made it and where I could get the full version of it I'd sure apreciate it...

It didn't.. *sigh*... so copy/paste the url.. that should hopefully do the trick

The other I have is a full version.. I should be able to up it sometime during today... I have a little prob's with the upload java script..

Yup, it's industrial...
As for techno genres, I think there's an unlimited number of them. New ones are created once in a while to name something new, inventive. Usually one song can belong to more than one genre. In other words: the techno world is confusing ;)

I'll have a listen, thanks Loki.
and there is most definately a Dark Trance genre, not quite as large as the Dark Rave genre, but still :)

And the hotling didn't seem to work.

So you need to go to the site:

members.fortunecity.com/dunkmyhead/

And then paste the following in the Location Bar after the adress:

sound/into_the_darkness.mp3

dang... well.. aparently all of fortunecity is
acting starnge today...*sigh*

I have now tried for almost an hour to up the other mp3 I have.. but every time I get the message that the server I am trying to up to does not exist (I use the internal file manager so it should up to an existing server one should think)... I'll keep trying or find another place to up it to

Damn it Loki, Get a FTP client!
I recomend Windows Commander, great all-in-one program.

And as for that music, I would classify it as Techno-Industrial, which is one of my favorite genres.

The song isn't all that bad, but it would be much easier finding more about it if one had the bands name.

well Beltion.. I have a whole stack of
ftp proggies.. but they do me no good... 'cos I can't ftp upload through the http proxy that I am forced to go through....*sigh*

So I am forced to rely on filemanagers..

I did solve the prob with the full mp3 though... but it's perhaps not in the nicest way

As for finding the bands name... well I might be able to locate the site I got it from .. it will take a little detective work though

where are you logging on from?
I hate proxies, fortunately the one at school doesn't take any notice to FTP traffic.

But you should be able to configure your FTP prog to get past the prox, ask your sys admin.

I am loged in from home... but the connection
is through the local university...

and there's no way to do it... the sys.admin at the uni has blocked for all ftp upload and use of ftp proggies out side of the LAN ... it's to prevent that anyone starts uploading warez and such... AFAIK

We can barely d/l from free pubs using our browser... but it takes like forever and a day....

too bad :(
is it at least free?
Loki Hedengang
2000-06-18 03:35:52

yeah it's free...
and it's a fast connection.. I have download speeds from 50Kb/sec up to 200Kb/sec depending on the site I d/l from...

btw. did you try and go for the other mp3 I uploaded??.. I know it's a little inconvinience with all those small files.. but it was the only way I could do it.. (I simply lost patience with fortunecities javascript)

k.....
the split95 proggy should be self explanatory.. but should you have a Q about it just say so and I'll guide you
Beltion
2000-06-18 05:57:10

it isn't...
it looks like you need the the split proggie itself to open the .x file
Loki Hedengang
2000-06-18 13:09:58

Beltion... you didn't read my explanation...
as I stated... when you had d/l'ed the split95.x you have to rename it to split95.zip or right click it and open with winzip ... it's a regular zip file .. the provider just doesn't allow sip's to be uploaded so I renamed it so I could.. it's standard procedier..

I hope you haven't deleted the files yet..

Well.. to each his (or her) own... I am sure that
most of what you would present to me I would not overly enjoy.. I am not particular proned towards electronic music.. though there's a few things I like.. among those several of Prodigy's tunes...

I usually listen to metal and goth

That's the problem with Techno...
It's way too over-classified. Anytime someone does something different, it gets a new genre name. Okay, again, I'm no expert. But that's my impression. String together a couple of words and it's PROBABLY a genre of techno... *Grin* Let's see.. How about Dark Lunacy? That sounds like a genre to me. Probably not one yet, but who knows.

As to the actual track, I didn't much care for it. I like some industrial quite a bit (not the cheap @#%$ like NIN, for example) and some tech quite a bit, but this one, for me, took the worst of both and meshed them into something that was worse than the sum of its parts.. *Grin* Okay, that's a little harsh. It wasn't THAT bad, but it's not an MP3 that'll be sticking around in my collection..

Why? Well, it was just a bit too harsh, as in not enough tonal color to really give me something to sink my teeth into. Generally, I look mostly at the tones in music, the chords used, and all that. In this one, it was just a bit more work to get to that meat than I really was willing to put forth. *Doubts he's making any sense* Well, different strokes and all that.

I definetly see your point....
after having listened to it for some days now I don't like it anymore... it sounded great in the beginning.. but now it sounds as two dj's competing against eachother ... it's too moddled ... just a mishmash of electronic sounds... and it's already gone from my HD
