It seems I keep this place alive...
I have 2 questions for you, guys.
1. Is there a spell you find competely useless?
2. Who's your favourite hero?
My answers.1. I personally have never used Remove Obstacle.
2. Can't resist Jenova, really, she looks like me!  LoL. No, really. I like Solmyr, Cyra, Thant. AND Adela, Adelaide, Sylvia and Tylis. I just love these.

how nice of you to do so, dear.
1.
Land Mine, Quicksand, Slayer, Misfortune, Magic Mirror and Remove Obstacle.
I have never used any of these when I've had other options. Protection From Water is a pretty useless one too.
2.
Gunnar, Dessa and Kyrre, Alamar and Jeddite, Crag Hack and Tazar, Adela, Galthran and Thant, Elleshar, Andra and Ayden, Aislinn and Deemer, Cyra. Are all great heroes. (and of course, any elemtalist is great)
But my personal favorite is Shakti.

1. Land Mine, Remove Obstacle, Misfortune, Hypnotize (in most cases), Magic Mirror, Fire Wall (in most cases).
I used Quicksand quite a few times, would you believe... proves useful against ground when you don't have Slow.

quicksand is decent...
but I still like slow more...
I could imagine using quicksand/land mine on a battlefield with lots of obstacles and the enemy being several stacks of ground moving 2-hex critters (nagas or cavalry)

Never used Quicksand too...
and the Protections too. The genies do it from time to time, however. 
And Scuttle a Boat. I guess it's a decent spell when U see your enemy coming from your back to grab it but I never use it. Same with view earth.
