Elementalist start out with one more point in primary skills than other magic users and will be expert in a magic school by level 5 (3 if your lucky). That with Pixies and Stormies makes for a killer early game wich will get you the resources needed for the rest of the town quite easilly, and once you get those Magic elemtals and Phoenix into play, you are hard to stop.
Add to that the best grail structure in the game...
The only time 'flux might come out on the loosing side is on a map with lots of strong monster stacks where it'll take losses that it can't ressurect like other towns can.

Conflux critters breed like roaches. Like Belt said... they're unstoppable.

the thing is, you don't need to buy them all out..
Fire/Energy and Earth/Magma blow chunks when you factor in their gold cost.
(Earth is IMO the best to summon, but worst to hire.)
So you start at the top and move downward and hire:
1. Phoenix
2. Magic Elementals
3. Storm/Ice Elementals (depending on situation)
4. Sprites
Not wasting any money on fire or earth. If you need to bring the along later you can get them then. Or you can keep them in the castle as spare troops in case the opponent sneaks up on you.

Well, I agree to a certain extent...
but I can't justify buying *that* many ranged units that can't be resurrected...
plus, after you reason in that my favortie conflux hero is the [female]earth elemental(which means I need to buy them)
that strategy falls apart
and keep in mind, oyu can only summon earth, not magma, and magma kick ass(especially with the bonuses from that hero)
on of the best tank units in the game, barring cost
