That squire fellow
I thought I remembered reading in the rules (it was a while ago) that all the forces were to remain with the main hero. Is this the case, or can I unload some of them onto the squire before a battle (as was implied in a recent post, I forget which one)? This would certainly make some of the fights easier to win without losses, but seems to defeat the purpose of the fights.
Please let me know, as so far I have always kept my forces with the main hero, but if I can unload some of them, I would like to know. This would make getting top end scores much easier.
Thanks,
Marcus the Red

Re: That squire fellow
Of course you can divide your forces before battle. This rule is only for easy calculation AFTER the final battle. Judge has a lot of saves and don't want to waste a lot of time looking for your units. It's very difficult to achieve a good score WITHOUT dividing.

Re: That squire fellow
You need to transfer all your armies to your main hero after all battles (for the score calculation). In the meantime you can exchange troops between the hero and the squire in any way you want.

I had the same problem
Greetings Marcus! I'm sorry to hear about your misunderstanding of the rules.I also did the same thing and played over 15 arenas (normal and all the extras) with all my troops on the main hero but I asked about that a week ago and I got the answer you did. I also see the fact that you also start with XxxFOR arena just like me.I 'm curious what arena is next on your plan. I choosed XxxSTR and finished it and now I'm thinking who the next one will be. PS:I guess my records in XxxFOR will have to suffer if you will play them again.Thats OK,i like the challenge. Just yesterday I found out about the ST (I thought it was the one on h3trio who was closed on 24 april 01 but when navigating in heroes.net.pl site I found the real ST and downloaded some maps but for now I'll stay with the NT(I like a lot the magic because it makes the things even more interestins;if you ask me they should make the AI players experts on the magic they are carrying))and that you are a great warrior. All the best to you!

Well they have.....
Expert Magic (of school), with the book they carry.... some of them anyway... (in the description file some of the heroes you're fighting against have wrong setup...) They suppose to have adv. or basic magic... but they actually got expert...
Several minor bugs. on that "chart" lets take a close look at the "Elementalist" (Conflux).
in the "cart" he supposed to have adv. magic.... but got expert....
So.... (I don't mislike that I rather think it's more challenging) !!!
And several other heroes got the same "bug".... So to be sure, only first hero has only basic or adv. magic...... (Done with CasYYY, TowYYY and ConYYY). And I will start on a "Slayer" crusade against Nerco now.

A pity
that many players misunderstood the rules, so I'm going to update the rules so it will be more stressed that you don't have to fight with all troops with the main hero.

Good to know...
Wish I had known it before, but such is life. At least I found out before going any further.
It was asked whether I would go back and replay the vs. fortress saves I played without unloading the useless troops (particularly those gnolls!). Eventually, perhaps, but not right away. Too busy plowing through the maps I haven't played at all yet!
