Well crap...
stupid buttons at the bottom enticing me to push them...
I got an idea form that fortifications thread [*stealing from WarCraft*]
towers that shoot at passersby(unless allied) basically, I sugested an "engineering" skill to justify building in the middle of the map(no castles of course)
one could use them as "border guards"(literally) to pick off some of the enemy units before they arrive[fire would be automatic(unless maybe a diplomacy system has been discussed here?)]
I suppose one *might* even allow a player to station extra ranged units there(I was thinking a direct relationship between size[where skill mastery fits in] and number of shots)
I'll leave build time up to someone else though

closing a thread will move it to the top.
Beh needed me to test if I had mod powers since only Chan show up as a mod in here. I picked your thread as a target.

Good idea...
Some sorta garrison, where you can leave your ranged attackers. They have to be defeated in order to proceed and that wouldn't be easy since they would be protected inside the tower.

Building garrisons, simply...
with the addition that garrisons would have defensive walls.

Towers would be smaller than full garisons though
they could hold any type of troop to defend it, and would fire automatically at enemies... also, posting ranged units there would increase firepower before a battle
the point being, that it isn't a big wall, *just* a tower(like a lookout tower, maybe this could be the upgrade?)
and yes, I think I'd allow engineers to improve upon garrisons as well, giving them a turret

I think garrisons should...
have at least one turret (or two small ones) in which ranged attackers could be placed. It (the garrison) should hold upto 5 armies - 2 in towers, 3 "loose".
The guard towers could hold one or two armies that shoot a passing by hero (in a certain range) and can be destroyed only if the hero neters and attacks the tower.

Actually, I like that you said that...
